Hacking/Cracking is the ability to access computer or digital systems without the required credentials. Of course there many definitions and even differentiation between the two terms. However, that is information for Wikipedia and this post is not intended to be a theoretical one but a hands-on-introduction with tools, tips and tricks. You can obviously search for the academic material on your favorite website.
Hacking 101
What tools do you require to start hacking? Well, not much. A computer with OS and internet connection and a tone load of knowledge in no specific area. However, to start off, I will teach you some of the basic tools you require.
Operating System: Unix based systems work best, but Windows can also work. Any Unix based OS is preferable for example Linux, Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Mac OS etc. However, the best Operating System is Kali Linux. This Operating System is developed for Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing and comes with a lot of tools already installed. Kali Linux is a Debian based Operating System and therefore, if you are familiar with Ubuntu, you will find it very intuitive to use.
To use Kali Linux, It is advisable to run it on a virtual machine.
1. Download any virtual machine eg VMware, VirtualBox etc and install it on any system. You can even be able to run Kali Linux on windows using a virtual machine.
2. Next Download the Kali Linux ISO file. Virtual machines run Operating Systems in form of ".ISO" files so you need it in this format. Head over to https://www.kali.org/downloads/ and download the corresponding Image for your type of System either 32bit or 64bit.
